I'm trying to overclock my E6400 and I have a stock cooler. Currently, it's running at 2.13 ghz and there have been reports of 3 ghz+ with the stock heatsink + fan.
Setup:
ASUS P5B Deluxe w/ Wi-Fi
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400, 2.13 ghz
2x2gb Crucial Ballistix 2.0V 4-4-4-12
ATI X1950XTX
Lots of case fans
The RAM is brand new, tested a full weekend with Prim 95, no errors
The mobo and CPU were bought new back in the day, and haven't been overclocked ever.
Currently in the bios, the RAM voltage and timings are hardset to 2.0V and 4-4-4-12. The FSB is set at 266 mhz. I tried to set it to 300 mhz, but the system would not boot.
300 mhz fsb would give me 300 mhz x 8 = 2.4 ghz right? This doesn't seem like a big increase, but why can't I boot? I just get a black screen and my monitor doesn't turn on. I have to reset the PSU/CMOs to reset the BIOS info.
The ram and fsb need to be in synch mode with the ai off thus overclock manually. I have the B2 version of this cpu and its great got to 3.5ghz no problem and unlike my my e7200 can post 3.8ghz.
