Is This Motherboard Even Worth It?

I have an M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard (Here are some Specs)
http://www.afterdawn.com/hardware/product_details.cfm/3225/asus_m2n-sli_deluxe_ailifestyle_series and I want to buy a AMD Phenom 9950 processor. (Specs Here),

Now, this will be my first build and on a PC literacy level I'm about a 6/10. Is this motherboard going to be optimal for for this processor, or is it just going to slow it down? If I do need a new MoBo, what one should I get?

Well you are definitely going to want a different motherboard. Considering that's an AM2+ processor, it's going to be limited to the speed of the AM2 socket in your mobo. AM2 processors do not benefit from the faster HyperTransport 3.0 and separate power planes on AM2+ motherboards. So either buy the highest end AM2 processor (around $100) or upgrade your mobo to one with AM2+ socket. Here's a link http://tinyurl.com/5esptz of what you're looking for.

Very nice AMD board. If it's in your price range, i can't give you any reason not to upgrade to it. It has very solid reviews.
