I would first remove all unnecessary software. And for keeping the drive free from temp and junk files, I use "ie privacy keeper", a free download which can be set to clean up at every shutdown. I also got rid of synmatec norton anti virus, as it caused some chopiness on some video intensive programs. For an upgrade, I recommend the 5200-5600 in 65 watt varieties for value. Newegg had the retail boxed 5200 for only $42 this morning in the open box section, but it's sold out now.

Norton is a resource hawg - dump it for AVG and Zone Alarm (if you can't operate behind a firewall router) if that's how you roll.

I'd be interested in knowing at what speed your RAMs are operating. Download CPUz (http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php) and check your speed.

With AMD's wacky memory divisors and the 333MHz ratio your pc5300 may be effectively running at 610MHz (305x2)

Odds are your X2 4200+ is a 89w Windsor anyway so the X2 6000+ 89w would be a really nice bump. If my math is working your RAMs would be running at 624MHz (312x2).

You might want to consider (2x1Gb) DDR2800 for around $30. At stock 3Ghz your X2 6000+ would run your RAMs at 750MHz. Dropping the HT to x4 and bumping the clock to 213MHz would give you 3.2GHz overall with your RAMs running stock 800MHz.
