I have placed 4 matching DIMMS of DDR-400 RAM in this motherboard. Prior to updating the BIOS firmware, it only showed 3072MB. I updated the BIOS firmware to the latest available (rev:0704), and now I'm getting 3392MB, but still not 4096MB.

Does anybody know what gives with this?

No OS involved (yet). Will eventually run a Debian distro.

Knoppix also shows a similar amount as does the Ubuntu 8 64bit live disk.

CPU: Intel 630 (@ 3.0GHz)
RAM: 4 x Kingston KVR400 1GB modules

Any advise is appreciated.

Thank you.

I don't know. I've got the memory functions set to AUTO at this point in the BIOS. I'll check for that setting. Where might I find it?

Thank you.

32-bit architecture limits. Not even Linux is going to do any better on this VIA chipset, which does NOT support memory remapping. Welcome to 2004.

I'm finding that the hardware architecture may not be able to handle beyond 3GB even though the specs claim 4GB. I was hoping to use this as a development server using VMWare's ESXi environment, but I don't think it is going to handle it.

There is not BIOS function for "Memory Remapping" that I've found. I'm going to fall back to 2 x 1GB + 2 x 512MB and work from there.

tcsenter is probably right about the VIA chipset.

Thanks.
