Monitor displays 3 by 4 image stretched out to fit wide screen.

I am using a Dell Vostro 200 computer, but the image will not adjust to my widescreen monitor. It displays a standard 3 to 4 image stretched out to fit the wide screen. How can I correct this?

Change the resolution of Windows to match the the monitor's native setting. If you are talking about an actual image (like one you use for the wallpaper) you need to reformat the image to widescreen using a graphics program, it won't be converted automatically.

I'm sure this makes sense, but it's just technospeak to me. How would you do this? I moved a new monitor to an older machine running XP. Thanks.
