The FX-55 is S939, while the 5400+ is AM2, keep that in mind. What price are you paying for the FX-55 and mobo? If its low enough, this might be a good deal. If however you are paying any kind of premium for the FX-55, keep moving. Used 3500+s go for around $20, and play wow just fine.

I have the FX55 and oddly enough installed on the ASUS A8N-SLI for many years now. I use it as a work station in a back office. The FX 55 is second highest rated single core CPU produced, the FX57 number one. But that doesn't mean much in the real world. As mentioned, socket 939 is discontinued long ago. I have a slight overclock to 2.8GHz and the machine performs really well as single core processors go. It is quite a bit more efficient than my AMD 64 4000+ 939. I even have dual 7800GT's hooked up. I also have an A8N32-SLI Deluxe socket 939 with a 4800 X2 which also performs quite well. My smaller 939 processors like my two AMD 64 3400's and my 3200 with 512 MB L2 cache choke down and fail when trying to transfer huge Photoshop files (700MB and larger). The bits of information will not flow through the smaller cache and the files cause system failure. Not so with the FX55 and the 4800X2. My FX55 is pretty tricked out. I have it in this Ferrari case right now. I think it's still good to go for another year, but as mentioned the AM2 systems is still alive an with an upgrade path unlike the 939 FX55.

Even has sound effects! 8)
