Gateway 840GM with a E6600? Will it work?

I am trying to help out the pops with his old computer. He has an older Gateway 840GM and I cant seem to find much specs on that computer other then the current CPU is the Intel Pentium D 830 / 3 GHz Dual Core. I have a spare E6600 775LGA sitting around. Will that E6600 be compatible with that Gateway and will i see a performance increase?

It looks like that computer uses a 945G chipset, which should support the e6600. You should see if there is a newer bios for that computer listed on the gateway website. If there is, update the bios, then install the e6600 and see if it works.
