help with processor upgrade

Looking to upgrade my processor to a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115028 or those that dont wanna follow link Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor.

I currently have a Gateway computer with a intel mobo D945gcf with a 1.8ghz dual core . My question is will this processor work with the mobo that i have . It appears that the 900 series will work with any 6000 or 4000 series dual core from what i understood from intel website but just wanted clarification from someone who knows much more than i do .
thanks for any help offered

I can not find the exact model you mention on intel site. The closest one is d945gclf. If that is the one , it works.
  2. yeah from what i understand from reading a few posts it is similar to the D945gcl but the F has built in firewire ? i believe is what i read. MY computer is a GT5438
  3. One problem. None of the e6XX0 CPU's are being made anymore. The link you posted is pretty much deactivated. Better off saving the money and building a new system.
  4. well i found one at http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3241546&CatId=2396 after i saw the one at newegg wasnt available . Would like to build a new system but just not possible at this time. Just trying to get a little better gaming experience than my 1.8ghz is giving me . Honestly i only play Warcraft which is very forgiving as far as specs go heh. Im really not even paying any money for it ,my mother calls me up and asks me what i want for christmas, tells me she is spending around 200 bucks a kid and i thought what the heck ill look into processors :)
  5. Well, here's a thought. What graphics card you have and what resolution you play at?
  6. im using a bfg 8600gts OC 256mb card playing at 1440 by 900 resolution. Thanks for help guys i really appreciate it!
  7. Upgrade the GPU first. The 8600GTS is a crappy card.
  8. ok so I went searching around for a newer video card and found http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8800372&type=product&id=1205538349548 . Is this a good card ?
