If you are running the standard heatsink, don't bother.

I did the overclock in my signature without disabling anything. The guide gets you to do this, so when you ask for help, we can eliminate any possible cause. The idea is to go back and turn those features back on if you can afterwards.

So don't worry, and make sure you haven't turned off CPU Thermal Throttling.

Q6600 is a good overclocker, but will need a very good heatsink.

Also this wont improve how the game looks, but it may improve how many frames per second you can get.
If the game looks crappy but plays smoothly, it'll be more to do with either drivers or the actual settings in the game you've used.

If you are running the stock heatsink, here are two sub $50 HSF's that work well:

Sunbeam

Xigmatec Dark Knight

The HDT style HSF's require a different approach to applying thermal compound.
Suggestions for applying thermal compound:

And to find the EIST setting (it turns SpeedStep on and off), look in Advanced BIOS Features. I turn it off until I am done with the OC settings, then I turn it back on.

I also recommend going into PC Health and turning on CPU Fan Warning and setting CPU Thermal Warning to 70 C. That way, if the CPU fan dies or core temps hit 70 C, the system beeps and lets you know.
