Just installed:

4870x2 still starts up with core in 3d mode.

Still runs the fan very lower than most of us would.

So far 3dmark06 and Vantage have lower scores

3dmark06 has gone from 21464 to 20728.
Vantage has gone from p14737 to p12013

I'm rerunning 06 right now. Vantage looked all messed up also. I'll wait to see how others do before I rule out a problem at my end.

Second run through of 3dmark06 and Vantage after restarting the system again.

My score are now 20861-3dmark06 and P14752-Vantage.

Now to try the new Rivatuner release (2.11) that is now able to control the fans on the 4870x2.

I think the limits ATI/AMD put on the cards are there because if you much higher then the clocks they allow, you'd probably be required to raise the gfx cards voltage. If they allowed us to do that then we would all have godly cards, as the gfx card range tends to be exactly the same just some yields can't clock so high are given as med/low range products.

Just a guess though, I don't follow the in's and out's of things that I generally can't change...

for what it's worth, it bumped my 3dmark06 score up 1100 from the 8.9 beta drivers.

seems more stable for my 4850. i can oc to 700/1100 now from 680/1050.
