I'm interested in overclocking my PowerColor HD 4890 1gb. However I have two in crossfire and I was wondering if I run Rivatuner does it effect both cards? How would it work? I know next to nothing about overclocking gpus but would like to learn.

Also would AMD overdrive be a more suitable utility to run it in instead of Rivatuner?

with my hd4870's in crossfire i could only use msi afterburner or the one in ccc, i never got riva tuner to work :P

With the experience i found on my 3870's in crossfire, the clock speeds in CCC are going all your need... The reason i say this is beacause having the cards in crossifre limits thier overclock ability.

Yes you can use Rivatuner, but you have to go into 'Lower Level' for each 'Graphics Adapter' if memory serves me right. However, there is alot of info here all about overclocking 4890's in crossfire ;).

i have overclocked my 4890 but when i launch crysis and get into a game it crashes and freezes..but it works fine with games like counterstrike source and NFS shift. what is the problem if anyone knows.

Reply to goodlockin

In those games they aren't nearly as intensive as crysis so they don't generate as much heat but crysis starts to burn up the video cards, so they crash

I have HD 4830 in crossfire (1GB each) and I agree with richardscott on using MSI afterburner. I tried CCC but in only overclocked the first card never and never the second. As for Rivatuner, I never got it to work.

Crysis is kinda heavy but it never crashed for me. Temps went upto 55C for me. not more.

kinda the same situation with goodlockin, except bioshock is the only game that causes me 4890 to crash. It can handle crysis, world in conflict, fallout 3, BIA: HH, any source game etc at 950/1100, but bioshock always crashes within 15min of play. I just avoid playing it now, but should I be worried. The temps are 60c idle 79c load.
