I just installed a VisionTek HD 4870 and wanted to give it a shot with my old 430W Thermaltake PSU. It has a single 12V rail @ 18A.
Lo and behold, after hours of stress testing all components I haven't had any problems. Here are all the power draining components:
- Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
- Intel E6420 (ES) @ 2.13GHz
- 4 x 1GB G.SKILL DDR2-800 @ 800 MHz
- 5 drives: 750GB Seagate, 750GB WD, 500GB WD, 400 GB Seagate, NEC DVD-RW
- WN311T RangeMax 802.11n Wireless PC PCI Adapter
- VisionTek HD 4870 512MB
The Thermaltake doesn't even have two 6-pin power adapters so I used the dual molex adapter that came with the 4870.
