It sounds like a failing PSU to me.
Could you post your full systems specs?

I've seen this issue with video cards as well... check the fan if it's not using passive heat displacement and make sure it is spinning (it should also spin freely if you flick it with your finger.)

I've had several video cards that I caught in the early phase of overheating when their cheap $.20 cooling fans seized up. The card would work fine in 2d when the 3d hardware wasn't in use but it would go 'black' as you put it when you launched anything that required OpenGL or Direct3d.

Is it possible that the game put your video card into a screen resolution that your monitor doesn't support? Then, when your computer reboots it starts out at VGA res (which you can see), and switches to this unsupported res when you login (which you can't see). So if you boot into VGA-only safe mode, uninstall the graphics drivers, and clean out any registry entries relating to the graphics drivers, and then reinstall (after another reboot), that might be enough to get your GPU's output showing up on your monitor again.

You mean by installing drivers just simpely install the drivers by executing the .exe file you downloaded from the internet or using the tool in control panel? ( control panel-system-advanced-hardware ).
