Windows 7" Local Area connection doesn't have a valid connection"

Hello,

I am not a techie and my head is about to explode. I am getting the above message after troubleshooting. I have just switched to a new computer with windows 7 pre-installed.

All fine on old computer running XP Getting unidentified network + above error message. I have tried
the suggestions outlined on this forum e.g. enabling/disabling card, checking for Bonjour service string and the like but no luck. Please can somebody help. (in not too technical language)

DHCP enabled in router?

Try setting a static i.p within IPv4 settings
