total = 1000euros.

mainly for gaming and general use, may want to upgrade it to some kind of audio workstation to record my band in the future, but for now i only want it to have that kind of expansion possibilities, since i don't really know if i'll really need that.

kinda wanted to spend a little less on the motherboard, any cheaper but good alternatives?

Not familiar with the psu make. I do know Hiper is popular there & is reliable. Other good makes:

The rest is fine. You can substitute that board with GA-EP45-DS3L if you don't need RAID & IEEE (firewire). If you need only RAID, then -DS3R.

  • Check the price for the E8500, some places have them for 10-20$ more (even in Canada).
  • Check the PSU reviews because I would rather go for a reputable brand like Corsair or Power & Cooling.
  • Consider an ATI 4850 or 4870.
  • Unless prices are fairly equal, get DDR2-800, there will be close to no performance difference.

hmm

how about a PSU OCZ Gamexstream 600w? is 600w enough?

a sapphire ati 4850 which is 20 euros cheaper than the BFG 9800GTX+

and ram: 4gb ddr2 ocz cl4 pc2-6400 (800) reaper hpc for 20 euros less than what i mentioned.

9800GTX+ req:

Quote :

Minimum of a 450 Watt power supply.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 24 Amp Amps.)
Minimum 550 Watt for SLI mode system.
(Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 30 Amp Amps.)

HD4800 req:

Quote :

HD4850

450 Watt or greater power supply with 75 Watt 6-pin PCI Express® power connector recommended (550 Watt and two 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)

HD4870
500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)

Actual wattage will be lower. Go with the requirement.

does that take into account the other components? if so then a 550watt should be just fine?

Reply to Deadstar

Yes, the 600w means the whole pc will use up to 600w. Yes, you can buy a psu just enough for now, but you'll have to upgrade the psu when you upgrade to a more powerful gpu. It's best to get a bigger one.

ok then, i'll get a corsair 650w TX which is only slightly more expensive

im considering this setup now:

core2duo 8400
bfg 9800gtx+
2gb ram ocz reaper cl5 9200 (1150)
mobo asus P5Q
screen LG tft 22" W2242S-PF wide black
hdd seagate 500mb 32mb cache
dvdrw samsung black bulk
case nox coolbay window black
corsair tx 650w

is the LG screen any good?

Reply to Deadstar

Specs look great.

LG is not bad.

Reply to auscanzukus

Would use a 4870 with that P5Q board. Then you can add another one later, you won't be able to with an NVidia card.

The RAM is also too fast unless you are planning an enormous overclock. Try 4Gb of DDR2-800, it will be cheaper too.

Also check you can't find an E8500 for only $20 extra.

WD have a well priced drive at 640Gb.

Maybe look at the Corsair 750TX also.
