Realtek 883 not working

Hi there. Having a bit of a struggle with this one. Just got an Asus M3A board, managed to sort out all the LAN problems but I still can not get audio to work. It recognizes that I have my speakers connected to my rear out port and tells me it is playing but I am not getting anything. I know with older boards if you do not use the front panel then you have to put the jumpers onto the header, I have tried this to no avail. Trying it it both XP sp3 and vista home basic 32, and have installed all latest drivers. Anybody have any ideas?

You do have the volume turned up right? Not the volume control on the speakers, but the XP volume. Mute off as well?

Volume is set to about 80%! In sound options in Vista the bar is showing movement but with everything turned up to full there is a distinct lack of anything!!!

Have just noticed in Realtek Audio Manager the two front ports appear to be highlighted as well as my rear output! Not sure if that makes a difference?
