Everyone remember how in the original Crysis you could get near DX10 looking graphics on DX9 based systems by editing certaing .cfg files? While at the same time keeping the performance hit down. Well, it looks like Crytek has taken that into account with Crysis Warhead. The 'Enthusiast' A.K.A. Extreme presets can now be enabled... even in DX9 mode. I have Vista 64 and I will attest to say that running it in DX9 vs DX10 shows very little improvements to graphics. However, DX9 mode runs much, much smoother and looks fantastic. I had all the settings to Enthusiast including some AA and I was getting 30-50 fps constantly at 1920 res. Also, this is with the 8.8 drivers, I have yet to try the 8.9 drivers. I just thought I would let everybody know that as far as I am concerned Crysis has been conquered, it also goes to show how ultimately uselss DX10 is. Anyways, I will be enjoying Crysis Warhead for the next few weeks, so far it has been superb.

Edit: Specs in sig. What are your results DX10 vs DX9 ??

#BUMP# stop this thread from falling off a cliff. Getting warhead this week, will try out my highest playable settings hardocp.com style vs. the old crysis with a stock 4870. On xp so can't try dx10 though. Missing sod-all though in that respect lol

Well, like I said, you can crank up all the Graphics in XP now, so enjoy.

in DX 10 enthusiast I get 17-60+ (AVG 33) @ 1650x1080 0 AA :) with a single GPU enabled. Quad GPu does very little difference:P

I'm going to try Quad GPU enabled with dx 9 and see if it helps. I think both Nvidia and ATi cards will benefit from driver releases with multiGPU

yes, the easiest way you kno for sure, would be to go to games in your start menu, then right click and choose DX 9 and the game will boot in DX 9.

If your not sure if it worked or not, then switch to Windowed mode and it should say Crysis blah blah DX 9, mm/dd/yyyy

Something like that.

Liquid, I saw your test thread earlier, make sure to do a DX10 vs DX9 benchmark, now that the visuals are almost identical.

DX 9 my frames reach the 80s and 90s lol I bet its the same for every1, but I swear even in DX 9 it drops to 30 fps at the dumbest locations. high action parts stay 50-60 in DX 9 and drop to 30 when I'm looking at certain parts of the environment....I dunno

I imagine your on max settings at max resolution to get FPS that low. With a single 8800 GT at high setting (I believe its called gamer setting or something, second from the highest) at 1280x768 I am generally around 39 FPS goes a lot higher and drops a bit lower like 35 at times.

I just got the game the other day and finished it. This game was really fun to play. The water was different, reminded me of Bioshock. FPS ran from 25-50 and close to 100 at some times in underground tunnel areas. Sli scaled very well, for me at least, even at 1920x1200. I was running with Dx9 with blur off and put shadows to min and couple others to mainstream but everything else was on gamer. Here are some screen shots:

my resolution is at 1680x1050, dx10, all enthusiast, 16aa. playable at most levels with avg 30fps.

I actually think my frames dropped in warhead. Mind you i don't have the best system, but i was having a hard time playing with all the settings at high like in the original. After exiting the carrier, i had to turn shaders and postprocessing to low and i still couldn't get 30 frames. Kind of disappointing.

I can't really test it again as my motherboard died recently and i had to RMA the replacement. Damn M.S.I.
