This is what I have so far for my machine I plan on building:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819115041
RAM: Kingston Hyper X - DDR2 800 - Going for 8 Gigs
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820104043
Graphics Card: Nvidia GTX 260+
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814130400
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813128358

I'm eye balling the BFG Tech ES SERIES ES-800 800W (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817702007). Saw a few great reviews for it, and then some complaints about it in the customers reviews.

I'm going to go for a full size case, still haven't picked anything yet, but saw the BFG got complaints about the cords being to short and that its not modular (not a big factor to me depending on case)

I am really just looking for something reliable that puts out some good clean power to my computer. Any opinions?

Did you take a look at the top of this forum section? There is a special thread called "power supply FAQ" The thread has a link to a list of tiered psu's:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forum [...] p?t=108088

Have you done any psu power calculations to find out what you might need?

Reply to JohnnyLucky

Yeah I saw it, and no I didn't do any power calculations, just going for something that will last me a long time and for any upgrade I may come across, like taking the PSU to my next case and so on.

The post says to look at good reviews and I just want users opinions on what they liked most in a rig set up similar to mine.

This baby has some nice reviews at 750W: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -_-Product - Longer cables which is a plus :)

@alvine, my current PC is 5 years old, still runs like a champ too! 500W with a 6800gt in it lol. Just in high end games now it isn't doing as good as I would like anymore.

Good choice. I build pc's for friends, neighbors and girlfriends. I use Corsair exclusively. never had any problems. Rock solid and very stable. Tom's Hardware just did a review of power supplies and the Corsair did very well.

If you shop around you might find the psu on sale and a vendor might throw in free shipping.

I'm merely using Newegg as a starting point. I am trying to wait till black Friday to do my actual buying if I can hold off.

The only upgrade you can do is add more hd, fans and 1 more graphic card. A good quality 600w psu should be enough.

My machine will have 1 HD to start out. Thinking about the 750gig HD, I might add more later.

Probly only two hard drives max though.

For the price, the BFG ES-800 is an amazing PSU. Of course, you could do great with a PC Power and Cooling unit as well.

johnnyGuru thinks this is a heck of a deal:

As for PC P&C:

750W - Lots of nice reviews!

That Corsair 750TX is great and reaches all over the place. I've got an antec 900 which has the PSU on the bottom - I thought this would be a problem because my mb power connector is near the top of my case, but it reached with plenty of spare length.

Thats great to hear Atrain! Thanks :)

I have yet to pick a case out so I will keep that in mind for sure.

^+1 on the Corsair 750TX it's a great PSU, I'm using it w/ an Antec 900 aswell, powers my XFX 780i, E8400, and 8800GT SLI without a problem, plenty of cables to spare and never had any problems at all. All the cables are plenty long aswell. The mobo power connector reaches from the bottom of the case to the top while going around my 8800GT's and past the CPU cooler.

i think 600w is enough. my whole setup is running on a 500w.

600w should be, but it depends on the amps and such, a crappy 600 w might not but a gooood 600w should be fine

Reply to wahjahka

600 would be enough provided u buy a good power supply, corsair......pc power supply and cooling, BFG tech ETC....but if u want to future proof ure system getting a 750 or more would make sense, since graphics cards only stand to get more power hungry!

I went with the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817703009 while it was on sale for the Pre-Black Friday thing.

I'll have to get some longer cables I think depending on my case but that isn't anything to bad for what I am saving.

Grats on the pick! you'll have to let us know how that beast performs... I wonder why it says SLI Cert. for 8800 and below...? kinda odd.. I'd think 750W would be enough to run 2 GTX 260 easily.

Reply to 209Mason

If you want to clean your cables up a bit modular is always nice. Just got myself a Corsair 620, should be great for your system.

If you want to cut it a little close a 550 might be enough.

Sure I'll let you know how it preforms, it'll be a few days or weeks till I get all my parts. I'm waiting for some good deals! :)

just remember a gtx 260 requires u to have a 36A on a +12V rail.

so theres a lot 550 or 500 watt PSU thats doesn't have 36A on 12V rail.

if u r gonig for 800W then theres no problem but make sure of the 36A requirement

How is the 36A calculated?Say the gtx260 require(usually) 2x6pin power connectors(+12V rails) which each provide 19A,in this case,do we fulfil the 36A requirement since it 2x6pin which logically adds up to 38A,am I right?

Reply to tim924

I got my PC built and it has been running fine for 3 days on the PSU I ordered that I said a few posts above. 750W. The 260 has 2x6pin PCI-E connectors into it and has ran perfectly fine.
