Hey guys. i was wondering if i should upgrade or get a new build my budget is $300 for an upgrade or $800 for a new build.
My specs are: Antec 900 case, Biostar Tforce 570 SLi, Apevia PSU 520W, X2 3600+, 7900gs, 2 HDD, combo drive, 2 GB or RAM (4x 512mb), XP sp2, 22" monitor
Upgrade: i was thinking of just buying a new GPU i already bought an antec 650w PSU its coming tomorrow. i was thinking
1. 8800GT (or what you recommend) $120 on newegg 2. Athlon x2 5400+BE (or what you recommend) $85 on newegg 3. Motherboard with 770 or 790GX (or whatever you recommend) $100-$150 on newegg Total = $300-ish
That or a New build? i kind of dont want to build right now seeing as how AMD and Intel are coming out with new products. but i heard AM3 chips work on AM2+ boards cuz all AM3 adds is DDR3. thats why i prefer to stick to AMD unless you can get me an $800 Intel build with the newer processors.

Pass me the sledgehammer and I'll help you decide faster.
No no no, don't do that. Best bang would be:
5000+ BE $80~
HD 4850 $170~
With the same everything else. Your mobo is capable of overclocking the BE to 3ghz. Drop in the new gpu. You're golden. Your 2 gigs of ram are ok for a while. With the new build, you can throw anything at it and it will run. Crysis, AoC, etc.
Nehalem is coming out soon. I would just upgrade for the moment and wait for Nehalem to become mainstream, a year or so. Then do a new build.
Your motherboard is okay for the moment. Like auscanzuku s said I would upgrade Processor and video card. That power supply should go. It is a danger for your investment. Get a Corsair PSU.

Or drop the 8800gt, spend a little more for the 4850 and get that Black Edition chip and your set. Or newegg had the 5000+ x2 chip for 66.00 dollars at retail recently. Not the black edition, but certainly faster than what you've got, and you could probably get a bit of overclock out of that, that would free you the extra for the 4850.
