ummm thats costing you $4000? i live in aus too and i know the prices are inflated but thats just ridiculous... i reckon you could grab all of that off tiger direct for about $2000 and somehow i doubt it would be $2000 to ship it to australia...

Well AUS dollars are worth less than U.S. so I am going to overlook the cost factor. I do however have a few suggestions.

1. While you are at it, I would go for at least 8GB of RAM. You are planning on running Vista 64, why not spend an extra couple of $100s and "future proof" your system
2. Cut back on something else and get 2 or 3 HHD's while you are at it. The cost of 2 extra 640BG drives is only $200 tops, and raiding your HD will give you a larger performance increase than lets say. Your 1066 RAM (over 800) for the same or less $$

Otherwise fine!

One question. Where are you getting this money? also do you really need something that powerful, What games will you be playing?
Also where are you buying this from?

Spending AU$4000 on a gaming PC is absolutely insane.

You can get maximum gaming performance for half that price...if your smart about it ull get 90% maximum performance for $1500 or less

Are you going to be making money out of this machine somehow?

Would you kindly list how much your paying fro each of these items.

(I am also from AUS)

I am also from AUS. Those prices are pretty bang on, even though it's a bit over the top.

I recommend spending $1333 on a setup each year for three years, or $2000 each year, for two years, etc.

If you do it like this, you'll have way more performance when you upgrade a second time, as opposed to your current plan.

Also, use www.shopbot.com.au if you have no idea where to shop. It finds all the Australian shops and gives you one list, which you can sort through, when searching, by price, etc. It's a great tool, you will enjoy it.

Happy hunting!

Sounds like a collage of expensive parts. And that's about it. I won't bother specifying, too much money wasted on every part, and I don't feel like spec'ing out an new config.

I would consider getting a 1200 watt power supply if you plan to run 2 4870x2's in your x48 motherboard as each one is said to sponge up 400+ watts each on load.

That said you are really going for overkill with that system as you wont even need a single 4870x2 to run a 24" LCD. You could get by with a single 4870 or a pair of 4850's and run 1920 x 1200 on max settings for most games.

Seems to me the 4870x2's are for people that are running 30" LCD's. Given that 30" LCD's are super expensive, 22" LCD are the best value.... If you have problems seeing a 22" LCD I would consider getting an HDTV and hooking that up to your computer.

With a 4k budget I was kinda expecting a phase change system with a raid and 30" LCD. Realize this isn't an economic investment and expect your system to lose half its value in 2 years LOL.... making an enthusist system is well for fun.

Who is actually saying that? Most reviews that measured power requirements had a 4870X2 system TOTAL POWER under load being around 400-450watts - not each video card alone (QX9650/ASUS P5E3 system in the ExtremeTech review)

The 4870X2 has a one six pin and one eight pin PCI-e power connectors and that means its ability to draw power is 75watts from the PCI-e slot, 75watts from the six pin PCI-e power connector and 225watts from the eight pin PCI-e connector.
The actual power draw of a stock 4870X2 under load is somewhere around 270watts.
