Best way to darken blinking power light in away mode

What is the best way to stop the power light from blinking while in away mode. It goes off in sleep mode, so I presume there must be away to control it, but I don't find any obvious settings in Winodws XP or the BIOS. It is an HP Pavilion that is about 19 months old. It runs windows XP SP3.

The obvious answer of unplugging the led wire from the mother board will be tried if there is not a software or BIOS setting available, but I want to ask in case I missed it somewhere.

The button glows from its sides where it goes down into the front panel recess. The tape would have to cover the button completely. Perhaps I can get into the front panel of the case and pull the led and move it, that would be as good as unplugging it from the Motherboard and still possibly give a little light.

I am thinking the hardware answer may be the only one there is for this. It looks like blinking is standard for most Motherboards.
