How to transfer data to virtual machine

Don't have the VM machine so big that you can't see the host computer in the background.

Drag and drop files from desktop of one machine to desktop of the other, or Explorer to Explorer, or desktop to Explorer, or explore to desktop... How many way do you want? The clipboard is NOT a reliable way to transfer files from VM to host or back.

If you want to do it the hard way, you can network the two machines together.

This all assumes you have the real deal, VMware Workstation. I don't know about other cheap junk out there.

If you go into the Virtual Machine settings and select the "Options" tab there is a setting "Shared Folders". This lets you share folders on the host machine so that they are accessible on the guest. That way you can transfer files, or just access them from the guest without transferring, whichever is the most convenient.
