Hey all,

I'm looking for a compatible VGA cooler for the ATI HD5850 and I previously wanted to buy a Thermalright's T-Rad2 for my current GTS250. I thought that maybe the HD5850 would fit but no, it won't. On the other hand, I've found later that the T-Rad2 GTX's compatibility is 'Conditional' which I know what it means by simply going thru the dictionary, but I would appreciate to know (by either a picture or video) what it means.... I mean, would (or could) something go wrong by installing the cooler on the HD5850?

Also, are there any good VGA coolers for the HD58xx series??

The 5850 should have the same mounting spacing as the nvidia's 7, 8, and 9 series.

Wich is also the same as ATI's 1xxx,2xxx,3xxx,4xxx.

And the gts 250 is a revamped 9800gtx+, so, unless they changed the mounting spacing when they revamped it, it should have the same mounting as the 5850.

Any good vga cooler for the 4870 should be good for the 5870.

But is there any picture on how the 5850 looks like without its cooler along with the nvidia's/ati's series you've mentioned?

Thanks but that's one ugly model. lol. I want facts about the relationship between both the T-RaD2 GTX and ATI's HD5850.

I use Thermaltake DuOrb all copper for my 4850s in Crossfire.
For me was a no brainer to choose those. Now you have a better (or mayb not) version called DuOrb Extreme.
I dont know if its better since i dont know if the fins are copper also, where in the original DuOrbs it was (but consider the extreme has 2 heatpipes per fan where DuOrb had 1).

For me, 4850 in stock were at 86C on IDle and 109C on Load (but i think it downcloacked itself there) at full fan speed.
This was also becouse of poor air exaust form the VGAs area.
Now with Duorbs and a bit of ventilation+arcitc silver 5 as thermal paste, Idle is at 35C and Load 48C on the hotter card.
Anyway, did u check if you "need" aftermarket cooling? I heard the HD5000 series produces a lot less heat than the 4000 and its even quiet.

Also i can tell you that from the stock speeds (625/993) to my current OC (690/1080) The temps Didint rise at all, both Idle and Load, and they also didnt when i pushed it even more, but i didnt get a 100% stable OC, probably due to Volts beeing the same, so i ddint bother.
Anyway, bottomline in aftermarket air cooling= good case ariflow.

Are you applying that the HD5850 can use a Thermaltake DuOrb just as the HD4850 do? I just want get cleared out. I've bought lately 4 Noctua's NF-B9 fans; two for my CPU and the other two for my VGA heatsink (92mm). I'm more willing to use them on a slim-type VGA cooler because either way, I do not have any more valid space to install them in my case.

That Thermaltake's DuOrb Extreme version doesn't look pretty nice. On my third card, being an nVidia, I had to change its cooler for something similar to that DuOrb -- didn't like the style; I wasn't appreciating it very much. So far, I see that the Zalman's VF1000 LED and the Z-Machine GV1000 looks very neat. I like that T-RAD2 GTX, though!
