Hi, I have two hard drives in my computer, one IDE and one SATA. On the IDE is installed Vista 32bit. The sata is a seagate 120Gigabyte 7200.7 hard drive. I want to take advantage of the speed boost given by NCQ when AHCI is enabled. I enabled AHCI in bios, and when the computer is starting up, a new screen appears that detects the hard drive and then says "AHCI BIOS IS INSTALLED" so it seems as if everything is okay. I read that you need to have intel matrix storage manager installed to take advantage of the NCQ. After installing the latest intel chipset update, whenever I try to install intel matrix storage manager it gives me this error: "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. Setup will exit."

I have no idea why I am receiving this error. Intel chipset detection utility tells me my detected chipset is Intel G33/G31 chipset... when it is really P35. For the I/O Controller it says: Intel 82801|B Intel I/O Controller Hub (ICH9B) Sata Controller found in AHCI mode. Is intel matrix storage manager required to take advantage of AHCI/NCQ? Why is it not installing properly? I have updated Vista to SP1, along with all other required updates. My bios version is the latest non-beta bios (F8) and all drivers are latest...

Intel has to many downloads for their matrix technology, can you provide a link to the exact thing you downloaded and installed?

Also NCQ must also be supported on the hard drives if you wish to use it. Check you drives to see if they support NCQ. Although you should still be able to install the intel matrix storage manager w/o NCQ enabled drives.

It prolly won't install because your board uses the standard ich9 controller. The intel matrix storage manager needs a board with a "R" at the end.

However you don't need the intel matrix storage manager to run NCQ. Vista supports it natively, as long as the OS is installed with AHCI enabled.

If you did not enable AHCI in the BIOS before installing Vista, you should enable the AHCI drivers at boot time. Follow the resolution procedure at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976/en-us.

Then reboot your PC and try to install the package again.

I doubt that using NCQ will provide measurable performance benefits on your PC.
