Temperature questions.

I have a computer that I built about 2 years ago and have upgraded parts here and there since. I've been thinking about overclocking it and wanted to get some opinions from computer saavy people. Part of the reason I have questions is because my other computer (built from mostly replaced parts from other computers) is getting quite a bit lower temps. Here are the specs for each computer.

Main computer specs:
E6850 @ 3.0 ghz
Zalman cnps9700
8800 gts 640 mb
300 gb wd hdd
3 gb of g. skill ddr2 800
Asus p5n32 e sli plus mobo
antec true power trio 650 watt psu
cosmo 1000 case

other computer specs:
E6600 @ 2.4 ghz
Zalman cnps9700
geforce 6800 gs
300 gb seagate hdd
2 gb corsair ddr2 667
Asus p5q mobo
xclio 500 watt psu
cooler master centurion 5 case

The idle temp for the main computer is about 38c and for the other computer its idle temp is about 24c. I did notice that the Tj max for the main computer was 100c whereas the other computer's Tj max was 85c. Is that why the temps are so different? Also, the load temp for the main jumps up to about 48c. Is that a normal change in temp between idle and load? The main thing I'd like opinions on is how high can I let the temps go with it still being safe when I oc it, and do you guys think I should.

Thanks for any advice,
Vince

Load at 48 is normal. Are these core temps or cpu temps? I would check the core temps first. Would be best to keep them as low as possible. 60c is the max limit that I would push my cores to. My cores are at 50c - cpu at 38c on load.

e6850 likes 3.2-3.4ghz in an intel mobo

keep your temps under 70c at full max out put at full temp - ideally under 65c. max means hours at full output from synthetic test

anyone who questions these specs, i built over 50 different types of computers (types not acutal) all with 3 year cpu warranties --and that rule works everytime!

peepls luv to slam me! lol!

alright, I'll probably try some overclocking on this guy and do some stress tests on it this weekend. I'll be sure to keep it under 65. Thanks for the advice guys.

you can run the system at 85-90c for days it will not hurt your computer (this is baseed on mistakes - we did not take the plastic of vents on systems that ran very hot in burn in by mistake - no gurentee from me!) systems shipped and work fine years later

ran an e8400 at 85-90 by mistake - sealed case - plastic on vents again, works fine

when you stress test for target under 70c you making sure your cpu under normal use will last 5 years give or take

this is based on years and years of me only selling overclocked computers and gut instinct to use 70c as the intial high point.

i ran my 3.0c for 4 years at 3.6ghz at 60-65c when the psu you died i tossed it in box - it still in a box here!

i ran our 560j 24/7 too - i parted it out after 2-3 years and repackaged the cpu for a friend it still runs to today and it peaked at 75c

while some systems did go as high as 75c they shipped and worked fine - i give a 3 year cpu warranty on top off intels 3 year - if they do not cover it i will

never had one claim or one cpu failure ever - i built 3 systems this week to ship next - i am very small but everyone is overclocked

all 3 are q6600 at 3.6ghz but all are under 65c with 4 cores maxed - good cooling!

I hi guys. I'm a newbie to this forum site I don't even know where to post my question :/ sorry to intrude but I just hope yall can help me. My question is what is an Ideal cpu temperature at idle between from what " degree celcius" to what? I have a Core 2 Quad 9550 and right now in the Bios it says 38c/100 F? Is that normal or too hot? and the compute I'm building isn't finished either. I hope you guys can help me.
Feel free to email me at NameofaMember@aol.com or send me a msg here or answer my question.
I would greatly appreciate it.
