Hi all.

I hope this helps others out there who are OC'ing their i7 and have heating issues.

Specs:
i7 920 D0
gelid extreme thermal compound
Thermalright 120 extreme
2x120mm fans in push/pull config
lian li pc7-fw case

- i initially OC my 920 to 3.6ghz and within minutes, prime95 caused the temp to rise to almost 80C!
I reseated my HS and had 1C of improvement.

- then I decreased vcore to 1.15 and that dropped the temp to about 70-75C full load, 42-45 idle
- I decreased OC to 3.4ghz and temp dropped to just under 70C, 39-43 idle

- yesterday i bought a new exhaust fan to replace my stock case fan, and a lian li drive bay intake fan, and temps were 36-39 idle, 55-60 full load!

that's almost 10C of decrease in temp, all from 2 fans!

so now, my OC is stable at 3.6ghz, idle at 39-42C, full load at 65C. a far cry from my initial 80C. I thought I had a defective chip!

Good job. Cooling is a holistic thing, it's not just a CPU cooler.

haha thanks conumdrum. that was my initial mistake...thinking my 2 HS fans were enough. I even considered switching to WC!
only problem with this new fan is that it's slightly noisy :(

Now buy some Gentle Typhoons to reduce the noise, if you can find them, they sell out uber fast.

omg gentle typhoons? thats like saying peaceful tornadoes or docile hurricanes! hehehe
where can I find these curious atmospheric anomalies?

JabTech has some. Look at the watercooled solved at the top of the forum, I listed some good places to buy stuff, not just watercooling. They are all great places to buy.

Now, find reviews on them and other comments by doing your research. Do you trust me? I don't, it's the internet. Good places to find reviews listed in the solved.
