Question about adding a second SATA hard drive that has Vista on it

Hello guys. I am going to add a second SATA HDD out of my moms old computer just for storage purposes. Now the hard drive has Vista on it as well as a bunch of other stuff. So after the physical installation, how do I get rid of Vista? When I format it will that do it? Thanks for any help.
