I took most of this build from another post (almost the whole thing). I have been trying to find the right motherboard and this one has the specs I want. This is the first pc I will have built, aside of the one we built in class.
Thanks for the help

Sorry about that, the 69.99 is from the other build where the link below it takes you to. The 1 TB hd is priced about 200 or so at bestbuy.
I haven't checked newegg prices for it yet. I just know I want a big drive. I'll try to edit that in the post.
Good build and yes, go with the DDR2 800 RAM. Coolermaster 690 is a great case with plenty of room. The Corsair PSU is fine for crossfired 4870s, more than enough for a single GPU.
Im going with ddr2-1066 corsair dominator dhx w fans and the 640 gb 7200.11 series seagate drive.
How many 120 mm fans should I get for the case? It comes with 3 from the factory and has places for up to 4 more. I'm going to read some reviews on newegg to help me pick some quality lasting ones but any advice on the brand is apreciated.
Thanks again
P.S. I hope this post makes it. Last night I tried to post twice and they were gone today.
Check out the SFF21E fans from Scythe. I picked those myself because they have decent airflow with very little noise. If you want something with more airflow and don't mind a little more noise then get the SFF21F version.
You probably don't need more fans for now. The HD 4870 is designed smartly enough, it will push the heated air directly out of the case. People with HD 4850 cards have this problem, you don't. Maybe later if you add a second video card.
The parts should be here in a few days.
A couple more questions though.
Does the motherboard support e8500 out of the box or is a bios update needed? On asus website it says it can also support new 45nm technology, didnt know whether that meant with bios update or not.
What temperature monitoring software should I look into?
Also, is audio built onboard motherboard or 4870 better? Both are hd.
Thank you
edit: I just found on asus website that e8500 is supported in bios 0506 and up, which I think is the original bios.

About the audio - can't tell you which is best, honestly. Both are cheap solutions, not really meant to compete with a $100+ sound card, and they probably will disappoint you if you're an audiophile with excellent ears and speakers and listening to uncompressed music. Both are just fine for normal users AFAIK. Why don't you try each for a couple of days and pick whichever sounds best to you.
Temperature monitoring: I use a free download called CoreTemp, but there are others too: SpeedFan, RealTemp, etc. The annoying thing is you tend to get different numbers from different programs, so allow a margin of error.
