I'm doing a new build and have chosen to go with an e8400, 4gb ram (800mhz) and a Asus P5Q motherboard but i'm kind of stuck on the graphics card. I play a few games and going to overclock the system so i was wondering if it's worth spending an extra £40 and getting a 260 rather than a 9800gtx+.
both cards r good but i would go with the gtx260 avg frames decently higher and much higher low fps. the gtx260 scales well in sli. they can be found for as low as 215$ on newegg.

I think OP is from UK. For US prices, consider 9800gx2 for $280, no mail in rebates, free shipping. It blows away both 9800gtx+ and gtx260 in performance.

ya thats a okay card i owned a couple of months back. idk i really never liked it. got really hot it was noisy and for some reason the fps on the card kept dropping below 15fps and went up again. micro stuttering i no its common for sli cards but my gtx260 sli isnt having much of an issue with that. i guess its a good card i just had bad luck with mine.

That's driver issues, it's impossible for it to drop below 15 fps even in Crysis max settings.
why would it be impossible... yes, theoretically it should never go below 15, but... you can't have software thats perfectly married to hardware... if that was the case, we'd have zero crashes... ever
i did a clean install and nothing. well my games ran fine. just that the fps would drop randomly was my only issue. im sure the cards better now with newer drivers. i guess if u can stand the heat and sound of the card it would be a good buy. i remember when i bought it for like 450$ now its under 300$.
=O
thank god amd made a come back.
