Error Code 43, USB stick read issues

A USB memory stick is coming back with the error code 43 so Windows has stopped the device. I need understand if I can get Windows to ignore that a see if I can access the data on the usb stick. It is most likely a hardware issue but if there is a way I would like to try it.
