Flopy disk error DATA1.MSI

Hello,
I am nearly totally computer illiterate, sorry.
I found and old floppy and could see there are word documnts on it but xp won't open it saying missing DATA1.MSI and it is rejecting my office 2000 disc.

Is there something I can download then fix the floppy disc controller?

Data1.msi is a setup program, are you trying to install something? Do you not have Office installed? Is the floppy labeled as a setup for something?

Floppy disks go bad easily, can you copy the documents to the computer from it instead of trying to open them from the floppy? If you can see the flopppy drive, and can get to viewing the files on it, the floppy controller is fine.
