Some batch numbers are better overclockers.
Although I do kind of agree, because you can't order a specific batch anyway?

I know that, but why specifically those numbers?

because those numbers are great over clockers. well specifically, 3939B078, you can overclock this one on stock air cooling all the way to 4gh'z and lowering the voltage.

How do you know?

Well I forgot my CPU batch number, but I overclocked to 3.7Ghz with only 1.1125 on the vCore.. Does that count? :P

I just got my I7 920 whit bach no: 3939B078.
It overclocks!!!!
I got mine to 4300 MHz, on air(Noctua). A friend got his (I7 920 batch AXXXX)3939 to over 4400 MHz with water cooling. I havnt had time to tested it more than 2 hours with Prime, but its seems rocksteady.
My cpu got 78 degree celsius on prime, but i think with some twicking i will cool it down:-)

What about at stock speed?

My i7 can run Prime95 fine at stock speeds with .95v
...I can't OC at all cuz I haven't found the right settings for my RAM though...

Lol, well. Funny story is that I never tried under volting untill I got to 4.1 GHZ and figured it was stable, so I'd start driving it down from there. I'd hate to bring it all back to stock and try it though. But at least the profile is saved, so I may.

So I started driving it down (voltage) from there**

Nice one! With C0 ass well.
But you are using water cooling are`nt you?
Well i am planning on getting it stabil on 4200, and then tune it down. I see that you use 1.3xx volt. This will reduse the temperature one the cpu. does`nt it? ( I am quite new on oc systems)
I also see that you have the multiplier on 20. I have heard that having this on 21, could unstabile the system. How do you put in on 20 in Bios?(have a asus rampage II extreme x58)
As it is now it varies between 2400Mhz and 4000 Mhz(21x190) I think that this variation is to reduse heat, etc. But i would like to deside 4 my self.
could you type the specifications/settings to me?

Those temps were achieved using a modified Coolit Domino with a higher CFM fan and converted to a Push/Pull config. A lot of guys on this forum go for the very low vcore setting but as long as it was under 80C i really didn't care. The bios setting was 1.375 for 4.2Ghz, One notch higher for 4.3Ghz. 4.3 was the highest i could get that C0 to go but i was more then happy with 4.2 for use daily.

Disable turbo and up the Bclk to 200. What is your vcore set at? Everything else on auto?

I tryed to diable the cpu turbo power, and the multiplier is stil on 21. Cant figure it out.

I now have the the CPU turbo power on disable, BCLK frequency on 200, DRAM frequency on 1603MHz, UCLK frequency on 3208MHz, CPU voltage on 1.380 ( is this the vcore?), CPU PLL voltage on 1.85567. The QPI link is on 3608MHz.
I think i also put the CPU ratio settings on auto, but i am not sure.. The other settings is on auto/defalt.

With these settings i just testet it (only one hour), and the temperature was just above 70 degees celsius. I had just above 4200Mhz, but i could see after stopping prime that the MHz varied as mentioned above.

I'm not sure what batch my i7 is, can't check right now as I'm not at home, but I do know that it has D0 stepping.

I have it OC'd to 3.8GHz with the vcore at 1.18, I'm using a Scythe Mugen-2 in an Antec 900. Tested stability with prime95 torture test for about 24 hours (that's when I figured it was good to go), peak temperature was just under 75C (it was over 90F outside that day, maybe upper 80s in my room where I tested it). Now when running and playing pretty much any game I usually get a peak temp in the mid 50C range.

I'm really happy with my purchase this summer, I built myself a blazing fast machine for about $800... Granted I only went with a gts 250 (1GB) graphics card, but it only cost 100 courtesy of newegg. I'm also glad that I bought it when I did, component prices have been through the roof the past couple of months.

Ive gotton to 4.65 with stock voltages. Ive got the CPU-z validator, just gotta wait til my RMA'd MOBO gets back to get on and upload it.

Of course it was at ~-50c

is there any other way to check the batch number without having to take out the heatsink? cuz i have to take out everything to take out the heatsink....

darn it... dont have the box with me, gotta go look for it :(

lower voltage from 1.25 to 1.2 @ 4.0ghz, don't know if I can go any lower, but i'll try later, looking for the box right... :(

nice man! what temps are you getting?

Reply to pluke the 2

We have my son's running at 3.7 GHz with HT and everything else enabled and temps in low 60's at 1.2v .... got to 4.2 at 1.3v and like 69 IIRC but didn't spend much time playing with it ...,,

Thing confusing me is why I can't move from BCLK 177 (3.7 GHz) no matter whether I go from 1.2 to 1.3 to 1.4 to 1.5 (trying to keep HT, Turbo, etc all On) ....overshocked gave us some ideas but I been working so damn much, no time to experiment ..... haven't tried going down yet :)

Well after a half hour on OCCT, max temps are 55/52/53/52 at voltage of 1.13 (Used Asus OC Station, not BIOS to set)

i7 920 Batch No. is 3910A881
Prolimatech Megashadow
Twin Enermax Magma Batwing fans @ 1200 rpm (18 bda @ 1500 rpm)
IC Diamond 7 Karat Thermal Compound)

Like results so far, but since adjusting voltage on the fly thru OC Station, still has to survive bootup.

Ok got down to 1.09 volts before BSOD.....but 1.10 and 1.11 was same temps as 1.125 so I'm gonna stick w/ that.

My batch # was sliced thru on opening the box. CPU-z doesn't show it. What software will?

Software doesnt show it. Its on the box and on the cpu itself ONLY.
