I just bought Unreal Tournament 3 and Ive been noticing an annoyance with the textures when i start a game. It takes about 3 seconds for the walls and floor to look sharp and Im just wondering what would speed this up. Is it my memory or the speed of the information coming from my hard drive? I have 4 gigs of DDR2 1066, a 9800 gtx and a 74gb raptor drive. I'm thinking if I get another raptor and put it into raid then it will solve this problem.
Have you installed the latest Direct X. Also download and install latest driver for your Nvidia graphics card. This may resolve your problem.

It really is just a problem with the unreal engine. alot of games based on the unreal III engine have that problem, mainly gears of war. Personally I think that it has to do with the textures becoming so large and simply taking longer to load even crysis warhead has that issue. Not anything you really can do about it. My system has 8GB of ram, a q6600 and 2 velociraptors in raid 0. I still have that issue.
