Just took a look at the Falcon NW and Velocity Micro websites. They've started offering systems with Core i7. I decided to do a comparison with Newegg, and the boutique vendors have a mark up of over $2000.
Branding is expensive. I remain entrenched in my convictions that only rich idiots who can't tell the difference between DDR3-1800 and DDR3-1033 buy these systems.
But still, I wouldn't mind at all if someone bought me one for Christmas.
I wouldn't compare Falcon NW. They use customized water loops to overclock cherry picked components, that is kind of expensive so they charge a premium.
