How to kill a boot sector virus

I have reformated my hard drive and installed windows xp only to find that its infected with ww32.virut.gen virus? please tell how to fix this.

I should add, while I can, that the virus also places itself in your System Restore points and will return. Get an Antivirus program capable of scanning your restore points to really get rid of it for good.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus will clean your restore points also, besides getting rid of it in the open system.
