I bought several of the components as listed in one of Tom's How To articles
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/cpu-graphics-overclocking,2083.html

As I put the PC together, I see the heat sink with the DFI motherboard and think it's another CPU heat sink. I look through the user's guide and nothing about it. Little did I know, there was a separate document about the heat sink needing to be put on the North Bridge. I suck.

Is there really a serious danger of damaging the North Bridge if I have had the system powered-up?

I got through installing Windows before the computer would lock up occasionally.

Looking at the motherboard, it is no evident anything about the part or around the part has overheated (unless its under the part).

I plan on adding the heat sink and praying that no damage has occurred.
