Im a designer, but only in flash and photoshop, my current machine has served me well even though its pretty ancient (its not the tools that make the work . But im relocating to get a job and its awkward as I have no laptop at the other house, well I do but its my partners slow one. Im thinking of getting a laptop and maybe using my monitor too when I fully move, but at the moment Im between two places...
So ive been pondering buying a laptop or a barebones, the barebones i think are expensive and id rather just keep my current pc and move that about, but I was wondering how fast a budget laptop is compared to my current system? I only have £400 for a laptop if its worth getting and Id like a 17" one, so that means usually a core duo not core 2. At the same time is it worth getting if its worse than my desktop? I can always get external drives to make up space. On the other hand I might not use it if I get a job soon, so I dont want to spend too much?
General laptops I can get:
toshiba, core duo 1.7ghz, 1gb, 120gb hd (prolly 5200rpm) 17"
