I want to setup a file server accessible from the internet. The problem is that I don't to pay 500$ a month for a static IP :pt1cable:

I guess I'm going to need something with a static IP that will know the current IP of my file server.

Anyone got a solution? The easier the better but I don't mind overly complicated stuff if it's free.

I found a quick solution that has always worked for me.

I created and registered a domain name with http://www.dnsexit.com

Then I run their IP Updater utility on my Server to update the IP address on their DNS servers.

If for some reason I need to know my IP address, just ping the www.com address.

I run Filezilla as an FTP Server and client.

My files are always available to me when I am on the road.

look up dyndns.com, requires you to enable dynamic dns support on your router but that only takes a minute or two.
