My computer is a custom build gaming PC. I'm not a technician but I know a good bit, but this problem just came out of nowhere and I can't figure it out.

Last night my PC was fine. I turned it off, no updates, just a clean shut down. This morning when I boot it POSTs but hangs on "Detecting IDE drives", I've done everthing reset bios, unplugged IDE, all settings changed around trying to get somewhere but finally when I waited long enough for it to boot I realize it also hangs on Vista loading screen.
For about 50 seconds before the green bar is even in view..

I'm worried my HDD"s (raptors raid 0) are bad.

I have a second 1tb drive too
all sata
1 IDE dvd
no external drives/flash

I'm going to flash the bios again even tho it's a brand new version.

any ideas please help me out.
At least she lasted til xmas. Time for i7 anywho.

I've found the issue.
It's the seagate barracuda 1tb drive.
Plugged into any system it will hang at Detecting IDE.

Does anyone know if this issue is fixable like a bad sector or if the drive is just fried.

Its possible. put it into a bootable system and see if you can read anything off of it in windows.
I have an 80gb hard drive is several yeas old. It was one of the first sata drives, and it has always failed as a boot drive. However it still works as a storage drive and I am still using it today as such.
My guess is if you can't read anything at all, its fried and you should rma. As for the data, there is a similar thread here about fried hd's and data recovery is expensive from what I hear.
good luck
