i recently built a new system, and the heatsink did not quite snap in correctly, but is level, and in. all is stable and such, except my processor reads 100 degrees celsius. is this an error from my asus P5E? as soon as it boots, the temperature starts at 80 and climbs to 100. but, nothing feels anywhere near 100 degrees. also, my mb reads 30 degrees, so this doesnt make sense. I'm scared to run my system at all. can any1 help me with this?

Upgrade the BIOS of your motherboard
Check temps with Everest -> CPU temp should be ~30c and Core Temps should be no higher than ~50c.

Well if it didn't snap in correctly, it is probably overheating like crazy.

If core temp or real temp says 100c then you got to get the heatsink on right.

Basically, yeah, if your cooler didn't snap in right and your seeing high temps it is obvious what the problem is. Try installing the cooler again. Also use some sort of thermal compound, obviously.

This is why I tell newbies to get the Xiggy + bracket. Push-pins suck. Way harder to screw up actual bolts.
