Hello, I just bought the E8500 and OC'd it to 3.94Ghz with a 9.5x muiltiplier. However, when the CPU is idle, CPU-Z shows the core multiplier at fall to 6.0x giving me 2.49Ghz frequency. Is it normal for the multiplier to fluctuate and change the frequency depending whehter the CPU is beeing used or not?

Is there a way to prevent this fluctuation so that the CPU is always at a given frequency? I am assuming it's some kind of energy saving mechanism. Advice? Thanks

yes its normal and yes you can stop the fluctuation depending on your mobo. it really doesnt hurt anything for it to throttle down though. just consumes less power. you will find the options buried in your BIOS. (disabled C1E and speedstep if it really bothers you alot)
