Hi,

I read a question very similar to this post, yet the answer didn't specifically help me.

I have four modules of 2 GB DDR2 RAM 800 Mhz (G.Skill)

2 modules are: 6-6-6-18 (original)
2 modules are: 5-5-5-15 (new)

Computer will not post when putting the new ram in. I switched slots to test the new ram and removed the old ram, and everything works. None of the modules are corrupt.

That being said, I have a DFI X48-2TRS motherboard with a ton of options on RAM settings.

I have tried manually putting the settings to the 6-6-6-18 and the computer posts with the new 5-5-5-15 modules, but when I put the old 6-6-6-18 modules in the computer will not post.

Is this something that will never work, or do I just need to change some timings?

Thanks in advance,

slipmat

sounds like there may be a voltage issue
make sure you have the correct voltage set in the motherboard thats compatible with the ram

Thank you for the reply Arges86. If one or the other set of RAM is in the system the system is stable, if I put one or the other set of RAM in the system with each other the system will not post.

Is there a generic answer (non-motherboard specific) to setting voltage for the RAM and what should it be.

And are you saying, with one set in there is enough voltage sent to the slots, yet with two sets in there is not enough causing no post?

Hopefully that makes sense.

Do both sets of RAM have the same Voltage rating? Give us a little more detail, what type of gskill RAM are the sets? Are they identical other than the timings? Provide products #'s if you can.
