I saw a review somewhere saying that this case could hold an 8800 gtx, and that the HD 4570 was about as long as that.

The case size is fine, However that PSU is not only overkill but there are better out there for less. Examples:

$140 (Zalman I use one with a 9800 GX2)(750W Modular)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817341013
$160 (800W OCZ)

$165 (750W PC P&C)

Get a Corsair PSU or an AMD certified one:

ATI Radeon HD 4870 System Requirements

500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended (600 Watt and four 6-pin connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode)
Certified power supplies are recommended. Refer to http://ati.amd.com/certifiedPSU for a list of Certified products.

1. 24 inch Dell Screen.
2. FPSes, RTSes (Crysis, UT3, World in Conflict)
3. Upgrading from a Conroe 2.60 ghz processor, an Asus p5g m-atx motherboard (not overclockable), and a 9600 gt video card.
4. Plan to crossfire once HD 4570 price falls below 200 USD
5. Want to over clock to about 3.4 ghz (DFI LP JR is apparently the best m-atx motherboard out there for gamers.)
6. Budget of 1295 include next day shipping.

Reply to Meepish

Also need the psu to be modular so it doesn't stick out of the back of my case.

Reply to Meepish

at that budget you are spending an awful lot on cpu. but it is a good one so will try to work with it.

crossifre: that resolution is sort of in the middle for the p45 crossfire. meaning. x8/x8 is how that does crossfire vs the x16/x16 for the x48 mobo. on resolutions under 1920x1200 there wasn't much difference and on resolutions over 1920x1200 there was a large difference. and at your resolution there was a difference but not huge. but if you are crossfiring soon it might be worth it to spend more on that mobo. now not sure when price will be that low (under $200) so at that point it might make more sense to get a newer better card who knows so you will have to make that decision.

places to save $:
you don't need 8gb of ram. get 1 set of 2x2 and if you need 8gb later it will be cheaper then anyhow. so that is $70 savings (about enough to upgrade mobo)

antec 900 is $10 cheaper and a very cool case (temp) for overclocking. antec 1200 is even better and about as cool (temp) as you can get but it is $30 more than your current choice.

corsair 750w pus is only $110 after rebate saving you $160. If you do that and drop ram you can get better case and mobo made for crossfire.
edit - also pc power and cooling has rebate so their 750w is only $120 great deal.

+1 on cpu cooler recommendation above.

didn't see your post. my changes would allow corsair psu to be used. but if you keep that case then a modular one that is good is:

ocz 700w has $30 mail in rebate so $90 after rebates.

Reply to bdollar

Already bought case, so will have to work with it.
Heart set on mAtx, and the current mobo is the most advanced I can currently find in the mAtx format.

ok. save money on the ocz psu. that is $180 savings plus $70 on the ram is $250. that would basically allow you to get a 4870x2 and not have to crossfire later thus not losing anything from the x8/x8 combo? 700w should be plenty for one x2 just not two of them.

Reply to bdollar

also didn't see hdd or dvd rom. do you already have those?

Reply to bdollar

I'm good on a CD/DVD RW drive, but all of those money savers left me with about 200 free dollars. Any suggestions?

Reply to Meepish

I am a bit afraid of how large the 4870 X2 is, and again, the space issues come up. Any thoughts?

Reply to Meepish

may want to find out on gpu. the write up i read makes it seem like there is room. it says "Support for high end large video expansion cards"

and the x2 does have its own fan to help keep it cooler. if you were planning to crossfire it anyway you were planning on fitting 2 4870s right?

Reply to bdollar

if you don't have a hdd or are looking to upgrade. right now the best price per gb is the wd6400aaks. it is 640gb for $85 and a very fast drive.

Reply to bdollar

there is also no rule you have to spend every penny. if you want to save some $$ then go with 4870 and decide down the road if you need more. on 1920x1200 4870 should do what you need. then down the road you decide pricewise if it makes more sense to get new card or add 4870 on x8/x8.

Reply to bdollar

I'm going to try and make some room for this, I found some 800 mhz 2gb each ram in my former computer and can use that.

Reply to Meepish

Wait, nevermind, 667.

Reply to Meepish

how much are you off by? if my changes saved you $250 and the 4870 is $285 that comes to $535. Don't they run $540 - $560?

don't get raidmax psu.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817341002

here is the link. very important on PSU to get a good brand. companies are not consistent on their wattage and some use peaks. if you can't get this specific one then drop down a little to get a good brand (corsair, pc power and cooling, antec). with a single x2 you are good with a good power supply down to 600w. even lower probably but i like to error on the side of more rather then less.

Reply to bdollar

by the way. that build is going to kill at 1920x1200. should be able to really enjoy it for awhile. have fun!

Reply to bdollar

Will it fit in my case without any hesiation or sticking out?

Reply to Meepish

Still coming in under budget...nice.

Reply to Meepish

it's modular.

are there specific specs you need it to be?

Reply to bdollar

also as far as budget. what hdd are you using? that 640gb one is a good one if you need one?

Reply to bdollar

750 gb seagate 7,200 rpm.

Reply to Meepish

they make a lot of different ones ranging from $100 - $160. not sure which one you are getting (or if you have it). but if spending $160 you could get two wd 640gb for almost the same price. :) :)
