i7 920 vs Core 2 Q9550

They are both priced similarly.
I plan to have a 3 PCIE video card motherboard but, start out with one video card (GTX 260) and add later.
I also plan to learn overclocking about 8 months afterwards.

Newbie at gaming and I'm looking to build, or have built, a pc in the next 2 months.What should I choose for gaming and future proofing?

I'd go with the 920.

hmm, but with the 920 also comes ddr3 ram, a bleeding edge motherboard , both of which cost an absurd amount, and doesn't provide that much performance game over C2D... unless you use SLI/CF... hmm....

basically, from what i know the nvidia chipsets suck so you may be better off with the X58 board after all XD
