Sorry for another homebuilt thread, but i am trying to get a decent Gaming PC together for the upcoming Warhammer Online game. My PC currently is real old, got it my 8th grade year which was 2000...
My total so far is $400 bucks and my budget is 600-650. I could use some improvement and any tips are welcomed. Please let me know if there is anything that needs to be changed, im not too sure of what im doing. Oh, as far as keyboard, mouse, monitor ill be using the ones i have, those i replaced last year so are ok.
Here are the minimum specs for Warhammer Online and my base.
For Windows XP
2.5 GHz P4 (single core) processor or equivalent
1 Gigabyte RAM
A 128 MB Video Card, with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
At least 15 GB of hard drive space
For Windows VISTA
2.5 GHz P4 processor or equivalent
2 Gigabyte RAM
A 128 MB Video Card, with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
At least 15 GB of hard drive space
The new War game is pretty graphic intensive. The HD 2600 won't cut it. You want to meet or exceed the recommended specs. Not minimal.
2 things: the bundled psu is a no no. Get a case w/o psu & an Antec/Corsair 450W-ish PSU. 2nd, the gpu is not good enough if you want to see the screenshots of the game on your pc in action. At least HD 3850. Better yet HD 4850 or 9800 GTX+.
antec sonata III comes with antec psu great deal (and great PSU): $99
p35 mobo gigabyte: $85
hdd - yours $60
cpu - core duo e7200 - $120
gpu - hd 4850 -$175
ram - 2x2gb ddr2 800 mushkin 1.8v $69 (after rebate)
cooler - xigmatek s1283 + braket $42
total - $650
if i didn't forget anything that system is going to be pretty nice for $650 and with that cooler you can up your cpu relatively easily without doing major stuff.

not sure what resolution your monitor is but that card and this set up should work nicely on most resolutions. If monitor is over 22" (so 1920x1200 or higher) then it will be taxing but i am guessing based on your build price that isn't the case.
good call on the hdd. well worth it for $12 bucks. $42 is a lot for the cooler considering total build price. and unless overclocking don't need it. if you did those two things then you would be at $620 and have a heck of a budget machine. plus you have some options. that is $620 with the e7200.
you could go:
$670 with the e8400 which would be a big step up or
$690 with the q6600 which is quad core so might be more useful in the future if games start to take advantage of mutithreading.
however since this is a budget build and for gaming i would recommend the dual core. what i put unless you can go $670 then get the e8400 which is a great improvement.
Thanks all for the replies, very helpful. I modified my choices to include the e7200 and new MoBo. Its looking at about $640 with the new HDD so pretty good on budget. I can upgrade further down the road with more ram and a better CPU if needed but i think this should be sufficient for Warhammer. Thanks again for the help
That pc will last a few years if you're not maxing out every new game. Antec builds cases that look nice and are easy to work with. Sonata is a great one with a good psu.
