i have a 650i SLI mobo and was wondering if the Core i7 would work with this mobo? its a LGA 775

also this mobo has support for 45nm cpu's but does that mean i con only use 45nm cpu's or will a 65nm chip fit and run on the mobo?

if so im looking to change my cpu so i can oc it. currently the dell xps 630i doesnt oc yorkfield cpu's in which i have a Q9300. and 2.5GHz is bottlenecking my SLI 9800GTX+ and i am also upgrading to SLI GTX260-216 next month so i know for sure those will be even more bottlenecked. hopefully the 65nm chip will work because those are cheaper than the Core i7 but if either work could someone let me know, thanks

Google is your friend i7 is Socket 1366 and physically not compatible.

the 650i will work with 65nm and 45nm however, i dont think the 45nm quads are supported for OCing. This was only supported on the 7xx series.

with your older motherboard i would say the Q6600 is your friend. very capable, good price.

No, the Core i7 will not fit your MB. The new Core i7 is LGA1366.

ok thanks much guys i have a list of oc'able and non-oc'able cpu's for the 650i SLI xps 630i mobo and i might get the QX9650 if not the definitely getting Q6600 because this Q9300 not being able to be oc'ed is severely bottlenecking my gpu's here's the list

"Non-Overclockable Yorkfield Quad Core Q8200, Q9300, QX9300, Q9400, Q9450, Q9550, Q9650

Overclockable Wolfdale Dual Core E6750, E6850, E8300, E8400, E8500,

Overclockable Conroe E6750, E6850,

Overclockable Kentsfield Quad Core Kit, Q6600, QX6850 (QX6850 is CPU unlocked)"

the QX9650 isnt listed and idk where or what the QX9300 is, its not listed on intel's website. and going to a Dual-Core will never happen so please dont suggest that, Quads are so much better imo.
but either the QX9650 or the Q6600 is what im going for and thanks again guys

What is this non overclockable nonsense. Where did you get that info from? The chipset you got isnt good for overclocking but you should be able to OC some.

Every last cpu in your list is overclockable.

I really have no idea what the heck you're talking about in this thread and where or what donkey gave you that info

Ok, i got my XPS 630i to 400 FSB, so every processor on this list can OC easy. If you want to OC more your q9300, you should look to a new Mobo, like an EVGA 780i or similar. It will cost you less.

have you replaced your mobo in your xps 630i? if so could you help me out?

i thought about that, i would get one that runs SLI x16/x16 instead of x8/x8 like this mobo does. ill look into mobo's too but i dont know how to replace one in a dell. i know how to assemble a computer but i dont know if there are any special things that are only compatible with the dell 650i SLI mobo. if anyone has replaced a mobo in a xps 630i it would be greatly appreciated if you could give some guidance/help.

because if i can get someone to help soon like within the next few days i can have a new mobo by dec 2nd or 3rd.

ok ive found 2 mobo in the price range that i would like to spend and they both do SLI at x16/x16 even pci-e 2.0. so which one would you guys recommend, im leaning towards the evga mobo because i use nothing but evga gpu's and would like to have matching hardware. but anyway's both have 2x pci-e 2.0 that run SLI at x16/x16 and i think the asus has a 3rd pci-e 16x (non 2.0) i know the evga cost more but their customer service is great and i love their gpu's.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131232 is the ASUS

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813188026 is the EVGA

my cpu has fsb of 1333 and the evga mobo page has that stated in red but thats not why i prefer the evga board.
