Hi,

About six months ago (with the help this site), I found out about the MSI 8600GT Low Profile to upgrade my slim case DELL C521 (may thanks to those that helped).

Its been ok, but it really does need a bit more guts to play some of the good games like Crysis.

With the 8600, I do have to put all the settings to medium (or mainstream in Crysis Warhead) with a screen resolution of 1024 x 640 (don't worry I won't start a discussion about Crysis and custom resoliutions in DX10 here!).

I see the Galaxy 9600GT low profile is now available from a number of venders, but Galaxy specifiy a minimum PSU spec of 400W and an external 6 pin connector.

The DELL C521 has a 280W PSU, and MSI also specified a 450W PSU for the 8600GT low profile, but I measured the increased power consumption and all was ok with the 8600 (doesn't get hot).

Maybe the 9600GT will be ok ?

Has anyone had a go at upgrading a DELL C521 PSU, or looked at the new Galaxy low profile card.

Any help in this area is greatly apprecited

My Guess is it would not work.
The 9600GT requires more power than the 8600GT.

You would definitely need to upgrade the PSU.
Not sure what type would fit your case.

...some reviews from buyers on newegg seam to suggest that will work if your only running one hard disk and one opticle drive, as I am.

My last concern is the legnth, does anyone know how long the Galaxy 9600GT LP part is ? All I can find anywhere is external packagin dimensions!

I've got and Inspiron 530s and the Galaxy 9600GT is a very snug fit, but it does fit. I think if it can fit in the 530s, it should be able to fit in any system. It will not run without the 6-pin power connection though. Once I figure out how to get the Thermaltake TR2-430W PSU I just bought for it running, it should be fine. Looks and feels a lot sturdier that the Chaintech 8600GT I'm trying to replace.

Just installed the low profile 9600GT in my Dell Vostro 200 Slim (has the 250W PSU) and it works a treat - am getting 30-40 fps on Far Cry 2 with Very High settings and 2xAA with HDR on DX10!!!
I did need to purchase a 6-pin connector though (15-pin SATA Male to Dual Molex 4-pin female).

I have an Inspiron 530s as well, and I want the 9600GT LP, but I can't meet the 400W power requirement. I have only 250W. So I found this version that only uses 60W and does not require a 6 pin power connection here, http://vr-zone.com/articles/galaxy-has-a-low-profile-low-power-9600gt-for-htpc/6706.html?doc=6706.
Will it work, and if it does, where can I buy one?

Steven Steven Steven... Haven't we been down this road already? LOL

Video Card Nazi says, "No 9600GT for you!"

Speck, I can't find that 9600GT LP LP card available anywhere, and I checked 14 different websites. The one Jaguar linked isn't it. That's the standard Low-Pro 9600GT. The LP LP one has a core clock of 600MHz, not 650MHz.

However, I did read reviews of a 9600gt lw on newegg of 2 user with the same pc as me and they complained that it worked good but it got REALLY hot. Perhaps I will upgrade to it in a few months

That 9600GT is a great card, it will work in that Dell C521, and it won't draw too much power. I also have to thank you, dblyth2007. You've helped me when i was upgrading my Dell C521. If it wasn't for you and alot of other helpful members here, I would be stuck with a slow computer lol. Thanks./

This is Galaxy's new 9600GT Low Power / Low Profile card based on NVIDIA's 9600GT Green Edition GPU.
It only requires a 300w PS and doesn't even need the 6pin connector!

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice about my 9600GT LP, I have fitted it in my Dell Inspiron 530s case but' i had to remove the LP bracket because its not the right pin head.... which i think is ridiculous on dells behalf for using there own type of pin head.

This basically has really annoyed me because i have looked around for a LP bracket that will fit the card and will have the right pin head for the Dell Inspiron 530s case, obviously with no luck.

So i was just hoping someone could lead me in the right direction

Thanks :)

If you're in the London, UK I have one on sale. Used for less than a year. It's still the fastest low profile low power video card. Mainly used for Photoshop work and playing Mass Effect 2. Never over clocked. Reason for selling: I've upgraded. £69 + Royal Mail Shipping jameshleung@gmail.com
