Well here is what my dilemma is:

I'm starting Full Sail University for DIgital Arts and Design and i'm looking to build a computer/workstation that will be used for this:

A good deal of graphics , 3D type applications ie. Photoshop, 3DSMax, Alias Maya and the like.

Video editing, video production with programs like Adobe Premier and others like it.

Music creation and editing. I would like a good sound setup in it so I could hook up a keyboard, mic and maybe something else like it to record music.

And last but not least I would like to be able to play the new games out there as well. I don't need to get 60+fps in every single new game at max settings, i'm fine with 30fps, I think i will be playing games like Age of Empires 2 on it most so that doesn't need much but I'd still like to be able to play all the new games out there. I place on getting a 21" screen or bigger as well.

My budget is between $2000-$3000. What I'm asking for is for someone experienced with this to put together a list for a system for me, I haven't followed the scene lately, so I don't want to make any mistakes. By the way I'm aiming for 1TB or more of space since i'm going to need it. I have a 60GB HD Camcorder on the way soon so even that 1TB will probably be nowhere near enough. Thanks ahead of time.

There I spent it all:

3x640GB internal space.
1 external 1TB eSATA/Firewire/USB drive
Full pivot HP 24" monitor
Blu-ray

OK, so you have a bit left over for another monitor, KB, mouse, etc.

Would not a workstation graphics card work better for all the production acitivities?
Is there anyway to use both and switch between them. or does ivan need to make a clear choice (it seems the produciton activities are his first priority) and maybe make do with a workstation graphics card for games?

Serious 3D workstation cards can be pretty pricey, and I thought the 4870 might outperform the similarly priced cards. Was just a guess really.

Ok, the more I look into this the more I think it's a driver issue. Maya will play far better with the workstation cards, so those are better.

I changed to nVidia not because of performance but because the drivers seem to play better with your apps.

Added memory for a total of 8Gb, and added vista 64 Ultimate.
