Hi,

My current PC has lasted me for 5 years, but it's starting to not meet the system requirements of games I'd like to play, so I need to upgrade somehow.

I'm considering building a PC for the first time, and I was hoping to get some feedback from some more experienced people. Basically, I'm looking to build a pretty good PC for gaming without getting real high end and expensive, though there is no particular budget limit. Here are the components I'm considering:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6827118012
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824254005

Not really knowing where to start, I've based my choices on the guide below, reviews on Newegg, and articles and builds I've seen here on Tom's Hardware.

So do you think these components combine to make a functional PC that will run new games for a few years to come? Any suggestions?

Solid build. I'd probably go with the E8500 for the extra $20
This RAM

and this 4850 (although i like Visiontek, it's a $35 difference and Sapp has the fan)

Maybe bump the Corsair PSU to a higher wattage one in case you want to crossfire 4850s in the future.

Overall, not a bad list. If you got everything on there you'd be happy with the results. But...

I'd prefer this Mushkin 2x2GB DDR2 800 5-4-4-12@1.8V over your A-Data RAM. It's a better brand, better timings, and cheaper (after MIR).

The PSU you chose is very good. But for the same price ($100) you could get the SILVERSTONE SST-ST60F 600W or the Antec EA650 650W and with either of them you wouldn't have to wait for a MIR (although they both have ~$10 shipping too). There's also the PC Power & Cooling S61EPS 610W and the CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W both for only $90 (after MIR and w/ free shipping), but neither is modular if that's something you want. With a single HD4850, 520W should be enough but it never hurts to have a bit more than you need because it'll have a better chance of surviving future upgrades/rebuilds.

And for another $20 you could jump up to the Acer X203Wbd Black 20" and $10 more dollars gets you to the Acer AL2216Wbd Black 22".

Just some stuff to think about.

Some suggestions

Drop the A-Data RAM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820231122
$70 (G.Skill, OC's better and has better Timings)

Monitor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824009094
$200 (Acer 22", spend the little extra for the 22", and you won't be disapointed)
or: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6824001261
$260 (Samsung 22", These are great monitors!)

Otherwise, All is well.
