i just finished building my first pc. the installation of vista took forever.
when i was done i downloaded cpuz and found out my core 2duo 8600 is running at 2.0ghz is my processor deffective or my motherboard maybe? mobo is a biostar lga 775 p45 intel.
also noticed my memory was running at 400mhz instead of the 1066 advertised.
videocard works like a charm.
and the temperatures with speedfan are crazy one of my temps shows at -130 degrees celsius.
anybody knows why all these things happened?
Your CPU is running at 2.0Ghz to save power.
The feature is called Speed Step and it drops your multiplier to 6x when there is little load on your CPU.
When the power is needed, the multiplier will raise and your Ghz will return.
You must change your RAM settings in the BIOS to use your DDR2 1066 speeds.
Make sure to change the RAM Frequency, RAM Timings and RAM Voltage to what is specified bye your memory manufacturer.
Speedfan does the same thing to me.
It is trying to read a sensor that does not exist or is having troubles interpreting the data.
Download Coretemp to check your CPU temps and don't worry about Speedfan's misreading.
